Welcome to Curious Rich Engaging, a blog that was once created for the purpose of connecting with like-minded educators and professionals, but now also a place to discuss experiences through the lens of a mother.
I'm Kristen, a designated early childhood educator with the Waterloo Region District School Board (Ontario, CA), and I have been teaching Kindergarten since September 2013. I have worked at two schools and with several different teaching partners since then. Each year brings new 'curve balls', as I like to call them, of learning and growth both professionally and personally.
I have a bachelors degree in English and a diploma in early childhood education, as well as a multitude of professional development certificates. I am a wife and mother with a passion for seeing life through the lens of a child. Up until August 2019 when my daughter
was born, my teaching experiences have mostly provided me with
opportunities to learn with children ages 3-6. While I continue to
co-learn with children at work, I also look forward to the new experience of exploring life
through the eyes of my new baby!
When it comes to teaching, I am interested in outdoor learning, self-regulation, virtual classrooms, and mindfulness and well-being. As a mom, I surround myself with parents who encourage me to slow down and enjoy the small moments in every day. This is sometimes challenging, but also so beautiful. I am continuing to explore the following aspects when it comes to young babies: sleep, brain development and baby-led feeding.
This blog serves the purpose of connection with educators and parents. Writing has always been a way for me to embrace who I am and share that with others. In fact, I love writing so much that one of my favourite things to do is write personal notes/cards to loved ones as a way to let them know how much they mean to me. I promise to be as honest and real as I can in sharing my teaching and motherhood journey with you!
Thank-you for reading!
